About the event

Join us for our professional production of William Shakespeare's Hamlet, directed by Audra Honaker in an outdoor performance!

Bring your comfiest lawn chair, favorite food and drink,  and enjoy Open Air Shakespeare under the stars! To make it extra special, we have chilled sparkling wine available for preorder that will be ready to drink (with 2 glasses) at the show and King of Pops Food truck will be there selling dessert!

Last year we brought you As You Like It, emphasizing the necessity of community, vitality of returning to right order as well as the insufficiency of virtual interactions. We long for community because we belong to each other. This year, we are producing Hamlet, because in this powerful tragedy we have to face the familiar and uncomfortable position of decision making with unstable information, seemingly all bad options and the reality of suffering. Here we must still make a decision about what to do, and it is here that intentional action, mercy and justice painfully emerge through our earthen vessel’d selves, imperfect and striving to be better.

These musings inspired the choice for setting our Hamlet in 1930’s Germany, wherein the messy world of medieval Denmark amidst the backdrop of grief and power struggles muddy the human vision of justice. We are reminded that what we choose matters, not only to us but to those around us.

We hope that this production gives you pause and an opportunity to discern your own intentional action in response to Christ’s invitation to justice and mercy.
